Directed by Eduard Pentslin, this Soviet adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic is a fascinating piece of cinematic history. While it lacks the high-octane CGI of modern versions, it compensates with atmospheric practical effects and a surprisingly gritty tone for its time. A patriotic, survivalist adventure that leans heavily into the ingenuity of its "colonists." It’s a bit stiff by today’s standards, but it remains a charmingly earnest and visually ambitious relic of early sci-fi cinema. A solid Soviet adaptation. Faithful to the book, atmospheric with great location shooting, but a bit slow and old-fashioned by modern standards
